Best Place to Eat Texas Barbecue
By Joy Schantz
Texas Hill Country's Best Barbecue!
We were on vacation, researching genealogy in the beautiful hill country near Kerrville, Texas. After visiting two family cemeteries, we were overdue for lunch, and hoped to eat at a Texas-style barbecue.
Lo and behold, once beginning our homeward trek, we turned off at Junction, Texas, which is located on State Highway 83 and Interstate 10, where Cooper's BBQ, a gas station, and little else was found. This wasn't a chain restaurant, but cars and trucks were packed in the parking lot. We decided to try it. The moment we opened the car doors, the aroma penetrated our senses and drew us inside.
Folks were arriving fast; we got in line, ordered our fare, and received the most tender barbecue beef on Earth! Scrumptuous pinto beans, and delicious berry cobbler completed the meal.
Heading home, we enjoyed the vistas of the beautiful Texas Hill Country. Even though a severe drought existed, it was, indeed, breathtaking!
